FAQ

What sort of recording services do you provide?

At Homegrown we work on a variety of projects spanning many genres and instrumentations. We can handle up to 20 microphones and instruments, and have used the space to record everything from voice with piano to full rhythm section with vocals and horns. We do both live and studio recording in a highly professional and affordable capacity.

Do you write music?

Yes, we have the expertise and tools available here at the studio to write both vocal and instrumental music. We work extensively on original music, and enjoy the process of collaborating with an artist to create new works.

How large is the studio?

The studio interior is 450 sq feet, and opens into our outdoor seating and garden areas spanning an additional 2000 sq feet. We believe in the connection between music and nature, and benefit from a unique open studio environment.

Can I bring collaborators into the studio?

Absolutely! Many of our artists frequently collaborate with songwriters, videographers, photographers and musicians. We believe in fostering creative communities and supporting each other through collaboration.

How much does a recording session cost?

Studio rate is $100 per hour, which includes both the space and a producer/engineer. We recommend contacting us and inquiring about a discounted rate.

Can I rent the entire studio?

Yes, please contact us regarding use of the space. We do require that a Homegrown producer/engineer be present during the duration of the rental.

Will stems or session files be provided?

Stems (individual audio tracks) can always be provided and customized at the artist's request. Please specify this prior to the end of the studio session to ensure that time is allocated to preparing stems. Additionally, we are happy to send the session files upon request. We primarily work in Logic Pro and Ableton Live 11.

What are your hours?

We are available by appointment only. Typically our hours range from 9 AM to 10 PM. We do not accept walk-ins.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, the outdoors space is fenced in and is wonderful for pets. Given the presence of delicate and expensive equipment, please use your best judgement regarding pets, and let us know ahead of time if you plan on bringing your pet. You will be held responsible for any damages caused by your pet.

Is an accompanist available?

Danny Pravder, founder of Homegrown Recording, is a professional pianist and keyboardist with a stylistic range spanning pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and classical. He has 20+ years of playing experience, working on major projects such as Kid Cudi's Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin', and hit TV series Big Little Lies and Fleabag. He frequently accompanies artists booking the space. Additionally, Danny plays guitar, and can accompany on either instrument for your session.

What sort of musical equipment do you have available at the studio

We have a variety of keyboards, guitars (electric and acoustic), electric bass, full drum set, percussion and tenor saxophone. We have both studio and live microphones, as well as a variety of different amplifiers. For a full list of studio gear, see here.

Can I invite additional guests during the session?

Yes! Please inform us prior to inviting your guests, as it helps us manage workflow in the studio.

Are masks required?

Given the open air and outdoor nature of the space, masks are optional. If you have preferences regarding COVID-19 accommodations, please let us know and we would be more than happy to provide.

How is the recording quality at Homegrown?

The studio space is treated to ensure professional quality recording. Detailed sound paneling treatment, premium recording equipment and technical expertise guarantee professional audio for every project.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens! We ask that you inform us of cancellations at least 24 hours in advance. This ensures that the studio space remains available for other artists looking to book the time slot.

Are you available for remote collaborations?

Yes, we can route our sessions directly into Zoom for a more hands on remote collaborative experience, and are available for frequent calls and correspondence through phone and email. We frequently work with artists from all over the US and internationally.

Do you hire musicians?

Yes, we hire a wide range of professional musicians from a variety of different styles and backgrounds. If you are a musician, feel free to contact us; we'd love to hear from you!

Do you accept royalties as payment?

We do not accept royalties as a substitute to our hourly rate.

Are written agreements available?

Yes, we can provide studio specific and California compliant legal agreements for a variety of means. These include producer/artist agreements, royalty agreements and song licensing agreements. We do not require agreements for in person studio work.

What sort of accommodations are provided?

Tea, coffee, snacks and refrigeration are provided at the studio. There are many outstanding delivery and local options for food. There is ample street parking available. Two restrooms are available for use. The studio is handicap accessible, however the restrooms are not. Air conditioning and heating are available at the studio.

Are you available to mix or master my track?

Yes, in addition to recording and production services, we provide in-house mixing and mastering services. We provide a variety of different services, and combinations of services depending on the artist's needs.

Are you available to do live recordings and live events?

Yes, we host both live recording sessions and intimate live concerts here. We can provide seating and accommodations for up to 20 guests. We have a PA and monitoring available. Please contact us regarding further details.

Do you work with independent artists?

Yes, we work extensively with both signed and independent artists. We are proud to collaborate with a dynamic range of artists.

Do you travel to record, produce or compose?

Yes, most of our services (including recording, production, mixing and composing) are also available outside of the studio. These services may be provided at an additional cost.
